March Favourites; Travel - Dubai!
When booking our flights to Australia we decided to stop in Dubai for 3 days. Peter had been to Australia 3 years ago and found it so stressful getting of one flight to catch a connecting flight so we both decided to stopover in Dubai for a few days. It was a good excuse to see the city and would definitely be one to tick off my bucket list. Dubai with it's traditional values and social norms but also extravagant and luxurious lifestyle is definitely a strange but wonderful place to visit.

We arrived at the Grandeur Hotel in Al Barsha about a 20 minute drive from Downtown Dubai. We were greeted by the friendly and smiley bellboy who offered us refreshments. After waiting a while for our room, we eventually were able to explore the hotel. The facilities in the hotel were great. You can't go wrong with a rooftop pool. We were really impressed with the hotel.. it was just a pity about the weather.
Flash floods in a desert?! We thought it was pretty funny too until the rain just continued to fall for the whole 3 days we were there. Getting to and from Al Barsha to Downtown Dubai was just absolute mayhem. It's safe to say we didn't get use of the lovely rooftop pool or any pool or beach for that matter. We tried not to let it dampen our spirits too much, so we decided to persevere and explore Dubai as much as we could.
Our first stop was the Dubai Mall, obviously for some shopping but also more so for the outstanding Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall fountain show.
Even the damp, dreary weather can not take away from the marvel that is the Burj Khalifa. The sheer size and the exquisite architecture of the building itself is simply breathtaking. The malls themselves are just an absolute wonder and they breathe an essence of wealth and luxury which in recent times just oozes out of Dubai. Dubai is certainly becoming a trailblazer in offering an abundance of remarkable sights.
The following day we took a trip to the Dubai Aquarium. There were many entry options to the Aquarium, you could have a guided tour, snorkel or scuba dive. Myself and Peter chose the safe option and went for the guided tour. (wimps, I know) I was so shocked to see professional scuba divers just casually cleaning the bottom of the tanks, meanwhile deadly sharks and fish swimming alongside. It was completely mind blowing and I'm so glad we got the opportunity to visit.
There's so much to see and do in Dubai and me and Peter have already discussed going back to explore a little further.
